INDIANA: Domestic Violence Resources
MY ABUSER HAS A GUN
If you have a current Protection From Abuse Order (PFA) from a court against your abuser, or if your abuser has been convicted of a felony or domestic violence misdemeanor, then Federal law states that it is illegal for your abuser to buy or have a gun in their possession.
Indiana Unemployment Law Protects Victims of Domestic Violence.
Under Indiana statutes Title 22, Article 4, Chapter 15 (2004), an individual shall not be disqualified if they voluntarily left employment or were discharged for reasons directly related to domestic or family violence. To apply, have verification in the form of a police report, a protection order, or an affidavit from a domestic violence service provider. For more information, call 888-WORKONE.
Indiana Offers Address Confidentality Program.
Victims of domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault can maintain a confidential address through the Attorney General's Office. Participants with protective orders in place receive a confidential post office box number to have their mail sent to and to use as their legal address, thereby keeping their home addresses out of many public data banks. Applicants must be referred to the program through a domestic violence advocate trained in the program's requirements (see below).
