VIDEO: Criminal Justice Response to Domestic Abuse in Later Life
Domestic abuse in later life, also known as "elder abuse," will continue to be a growing problem as the North American population of "baby-boomers" begins its transition into later life. Professionals must be properly trained in the different types of abuse that are specific to elderly victims and how they may differ from other types of domestic calls to which professionals are accustomed.

Featuring law enforcement professionals from around North America, Criminal Justice Response to Domestic Abuse in Later Life is a 25 minute educational video that addresses the training needs of police officers and victim advocates responding to domestic abuse emergency responses. Participants will learn interviewing skills and evidence collection specific to elderly victims.

This program examines the 5 most common types of elder abuse: Physical Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Financial Abuse, and Neglect. Also discussed are the 4 different types of abuse situations in which elderly people may find themselves. Available from Intermedia, Inc. Preview available online.

S.T.O.P. Domestic Violence
Featuring Sgt. Anne O'Dell (ret.) of the San Diego Police Department. STOP DV consists of Anne’s four-hour domestic violence training and includes 22 separate modules, a 55 page training manual and sample domestic violence reports. Each module ranges from 5 to 17 minutes in length so that they can be used individually, one at a time during roll calls or lineup situations for patrol officers, or can be played straight through as part of a 1, 2, 3 or 4 hour flexible training session.

In each module, Anne describes effective intervention strategies which have been utilized successfully in the San Diego criminal justice system to reduce domestic violence homicides and provide help and understanding for victims. This vital training will enlighten, inspire, motivate and enhance any individual who works directly with victims, batterers, and their children.

Although designed primarily for use by law enforcement, these "stand alone" modules can be used without a live presenter are also appropriate for use with prosecutors, judges, probation and parole officers, victim services personnel, volunteers, dispatchers, medical personnel, educators, social services workers, advocates, and the military.
