  • Sexual Assault was the ONLY crime category in Maine to increase in 1999 and only 1 of 2 categories to increase in 2000 - it was up 19.2% and 16.5%, respectively (Uniform Crime Report, Maine Department of Public Safety, 2000)

  • In Maine, a rape is reported every 27 hours 37 minutes (UCR, 2000)

  • Maine's Sexual Assault Centers answered 10,857 Hotline calls in 2000 (Statistical Analysis, Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault, 2000)

  • Each year, approximately 1,700 unique incidents of sexual assault are reported to the rape crisis centers in Maine (Statistical Analysis, MECASA, 2001)
