Sexual Assault was the ONLY crime category in Maine to increase in 1999 and only 1 of 2 categories to increase in 2000 - it was up 19.2% and 16.5%, respectively (Uniform Crime Report, Maine Department of Public Safety, 2000)
In Maine, a rape is reported every 27 hours 37 minutes (UCR, 2000)
Maine's Sexual Assault Centers answered 10,857 Hotline calls in 2000 (Statistical Analysis, Maine Coalition Against Sexual Assault, 2000)
Each year, approximately 1,700 unique incidents of sexual assault are reported to the rape crisis centers in Maine (Statistical Analysis, MECASA, 2001)
